Luxury hotels and fine dining restaurants in France

Travel in France

As an association founded in France in 1954, it’s perhaps little surprise that this is where you can find the most Relais & Châteaux properties in any country throughout the world – we have more than 150 luxury hotels and fine dining restaurants in France, nearly a quarter of our total global membership.

From our original collaboration of eight properties on France’s Nationale 7 highway, running north-south from Paris to the French Riviera, our proud association now spans the entire country: the Atlantic Coast, the French Alps, its wine-growing regions including Champagne, its beaches, national parks and more.

Because that’s the thing about travel in France: it’s a large country of stunning variety, whatever you are planning. You’ll find plenty to do in its sophisticated cities, centers of culture and fashion, with globally renowned landmarks, as well as tiny, ancient villages in rural destinations. Then there’s its achingly pretty countryside, with rivers winding through fertile valleys, undulating hills, soaring mountains and sandy Mediterranean beaches – and everything in between.

Culinary, cultural and architectural heritage: our luxury hotels in France

Our luxury hotels in France reflect exactly that variety – and the culture, history and landscapes they belong to: grand chateaux and refined country houses, more humble properties at the center of village life, haciendas overlooking – or even in – vineyards at the heart of wine culture, stunning beach houses, countryside refuges, mountain chalets and elegant city center townhouses.

You will quickly find that each of our properties exude their own unique style of charm, as authentic reflections of their region’s cultural and architectural heritage and embody the soul of the countryside, village, town or city they occupy. With many of our properties owned by families whose own heritage stretches back generations, your hosts also embody that authentic soul – and will welcome you as one of their own.

Fine dining restaurants in France that characterize the soul of gastronomy

In what is arguably the spiritual home of global gastronomy, and with a wine-growing tradition that stretches back more than a millennium, our luxury hotels in France take huge pride in everything to do with food and drink, whether within our hotels or as standalone gastronomic restaurants in France.

Our chefs are true artists, channeling the terroir of the countryside that surrounds them, with close relationships with producers – from fishers and farmers to wine-growers – to reinterpret classic French cuisine and create masterpieces of the plate. Our restaurants in France celebrate its world-renowned culinary heritage – whether you’re in the mood for hearty, rustic favorites or finessed haute cuisine, hungry to explore its breads and cheeses, regional specialties from meat to fruit, famed desserts and delicate patisserie.

With Relais & Châteaux properties representing the world’s largest network of chefs and more than 300 Michelin stars globally, you don’t have to look far to find Michelin one-, two- or three-starred restaurants. Grand destination venues and intimate settings, town center locations, beautiful countryside or with sea views, our restaurants are an impressive showcase of how Relais & Châteaux hotels in France bring alive its varied culture. And it's no surprise that our kitchens are matched by accomplished sommeliers, in charge of tens of thousands of bottles of wine.

Be more French: discover the best hotels in France

Enhance your vacation in France by immersing your and your family in French culture, its history, gourmet life, wine, and the pastimes of its towns, cities and countryside. Visit historic castles and palaces, galleries and museums; make the best of France’s maritime life, from surfing or fishing on its Atlantic coast to swimming in its warm Mediterranean waters. Cycle through vineyards and stop for a spot of wine-tasting.

If you have a little more energy, try boating or go skiing, play golf, tennis or stick to boules; reward yourself with a treatment in our spas. Leave culturally richer – enrol in a cooking class or take in France’s rich literary history.

Our property owners have often lived a lifetime in their area and their concierge teams are always on hand to help you plan an itinerary that’s right for you and your family.

Eco-hotels in France: personal service, local culture and a passion for protecting the environment

Our French properties are the very model for our global sense of hospitality and our independent owners’ passion for hosting guests – ever since 1954 – and their celebration of the food, drink and culture that surround them exemplifies l’art de vivre (the fine art of living) – one of our proudest values. You’ll feel their warm welcome and attentive, personal service.

In addition, all the staff of Relais & Châteaux in France are committed to protecting the beauty and uniqueness of their properties and the communities they are part of. That means each of our luxury hotels in France actively seeks to preserve their way of life, and works closely with artisans, producers and suppliers from the local area. It’s an approach that recognizes the value of authenticity and the individuality of every community.

It’s perhaps no surprise that all of our properties are different – architecturally and culturally. Enjoying holidays in France with Relais & Châteaux means staying in intimate properties on a human scale.
